A bartender’s guide to New York

Brooklyn Botanical Garden
Check out what’s showing when you’re in town. There are different exhibitions each season, but they’re all wonderful and it’s easy to get to.

Tenement museum
This museum in the old Jewish neighborhood of the Lower East Side, where I live, tells the story of working- class immigrants to New York during different periods. It’s a great place for anyone who is interested in history and architecture.

Staten Island ferry
This is the cheapest way (considering it’s free) to get close to the Statue of Liberty. And you get a nice skyline view of lower Manhattan at the same time.

Rockaway beach
During the summer months, I often go to Rockaway beach in Queens with my friends. It’s such a luxury to have that possibility and to have a beach so close to the city.

Bars

Attaboy
What used to be the worst- kept secret in New York – cocktail bar Milk&Honey – is now Attaboy. I’m friends with the owners, who still don’t want to use a cocktail list, just their bartenders’ imagination.

Nomad Hotel
You can pick two bars here, Elephant or Nomad. Both serve great cocktails. It’s where you will find me when I’m out to treat myself.

Han dynasty
Chinese Sichuan flavors en masse. It might not look much from the outside, but it’s well worth a visit for either lunch or dinner and it won’t break the bank either.

Joseph Leonard
A place that has become a New York classic with its farm-to-table ethos. Go there for lunch or brunch, but be prepared to wait a little while for a table.

Pre-order the Peking Duck. It’s fantastic. It’s not the cheapest place in the city, but the meal is worth every penny.
